Our Vice Chair, Dr Amita Jassi, recently featured on BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour, discussing Body Dysmorphic Disorder and the importance of recognising the condition in people seeking cosmetic surgery and other appearance-altering procedures.
They explored how BDD can present in the context of cosmetic surgery, why it is important for healthcare professionals to recognise potential signs of the condition, and the role of appropriate screening and support.
The discussion highlights an important message: cosmetic procedures are not the answer for someone experiencing significant distress about their appearance. Identifying BDD and ensuring people receive appropriate assessment and psychological support can make a meaningful difference.
We are delighted to see Dr Jassi bringing her expertise and the importance of greater awareness of BDD to a national audience.
