Right now, NICE is proposing new guidelines for OCD and BDD that fail to address what happens when first-line treatment doesn’t work.
The BDD Foundation, Maternal OCD, OCD Action and OCD-UK are calling on NICE to reverse this decision and ensure that people who need further treatment are not left behind.

Why does this matter?
For many people with OCD and BDD, initial treatment is life-changing.
But for others, it isn’t enough.
If the guidelines are published in their current form, there will be no clear recommendations for what clinicians should do when someone experiences little or no improvement from first-line treatment.
That means thousands of people each year could be left without clear, evidence-based treatment pathways at the point they need help most.
People still need care when first-line treatment fails.
When treatment doesn’t work, the need for support does not disappear.
People living with OCD and BDD deserve clear clinical guidelines which inform clinical decision-making about evidence-based treatment options when first line treatments are not effective.
Treatment shouldn’t stop when treatment doesn’t work.
Yet NICE has excluded further-line treatment from the guideline review because of a policy decision about the review’s scope, not because the need doesn’t exist or because there is not evidence about the treatment that works when first line treatment is not effective.
We Believe This Must Change
People whose symptoms persist after initial treatment should not be overlooked.
Clinicians need guidance. Patients need options. Families need hope.
NICE must reconsider its decision and ensure the final OCD and BDD guidelines include recommendations for further-line treatment.

Sign the petition today and call on NICE to include further-line treatment recommendations in the new OCD and BDD guidelines.
Because nobody should be left without a path forward simply because the first treatment they tried didn’t work.
